Rosemary Candied Bacon

There are some long, complex methods to making candied bacon, however this recipe is simple, fast and effective! It’s important to get thickly cut bacon, other than that, you most likely already have everything you need right in your pantry! When in search of thickly cut bacon, check your local butcher or purchase the bacon from the meat counter. Prepackaged bacon, even when advertised as “thick cut” is still pretty thin compared to what the butcher can offer.

Ingredients:

  • 8 slices of thick cut bacon

  • 3 tbsp brown sugar

  • ¼ tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp ground red pepper

  • 1 tsp dried rosemary

  • Sprinkle ground black pepper

  • 2-3 tsp honey

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400.

  2. Line a baking sheet with foil, then place a baking rack on the baking sheet. Set aside.

  3. In a small mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, garlic powder, red pepper, rosemary and black pepper. Once mixed well, begin to coat the bacon strips generously with the sugar mixture. Make sure to coat both sides of the bacon. Place the bacon on the racked baking sheet.

  4. Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the bacon has become crispy. Remove from the oven. Drizzle honey over the bacon, just the tops. Then lower the oven to 350 and bake for another 5 minutes or so as the honey caramelized.

  5. Remove from the oven and let sit until it’s cool and dry, at least 15 minutes.
