Big Mac Salad
Whether you are a fan of the McDonald’s Big Mac burger or not, you will find this “burger in a bowl” to be quite satisfying. You are basically eating a burger without the bun here. So if you want to skip out on the Big Mac sauce, go ahead and add another sauce of your choice. I made my own Big Mac sauce, which is much healthier! If you rather pick some sauce up at their drive through, that works too. Burgers on the grill are great, but when you’re looking to toss the bun, turning them into a salad is way more fun.
Ingredients:
1 lb. lean ground beef
1-2 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper
Tomatoes, diced
Pickles, chopped
Sweet onion, finely diced
Cheddar cheese, shredded
Romaine lettuce, chopped or shredded
Big Mac Sauce:
1 cup mayo
4 tsp yellow mustard
2 tablespoons diced dill pickles
1-2 tablespoons white vinegar
1 tablespoon diced onions
1-2 tablespoons white sugar
1 tsp smoked paprika
*use a little more of any of these ingredients as needed to adjust flavor.
Instructions:
In a large saute pan, heat olive oil over medium heat, then add ground beef. Use a wooden spoon to break up into tiny pieces. Salt with a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Continue to break into small pieces and stir until there is no more pink. Once the meat is fully cooked, drain through a colander to discard the fatty oils. Return beef to pan, cover to keep warm and set aside.
To make your Big Mac sauce, place all of its ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth and combined. Add a little more of anything you might need to adjust the flavor or consistancy. Set aside.
Assemble your salad. Place lettuce in each bowl, then top with a scoop of the ground beef. Start layering all your toppings. Add: tomatoes, onions, pickles, cheese and lastly drizzle with your Big Mac sauce. Serve with french fries.
