Poutine Wonton Cups

If you have never eaten a poutine or have no idea what I am even talking about, here's some helpful information:

poutine

/puːˈtiːn/

noun

a Canadian dish of French fries covered with brown gravy and cheese curds

Okay, so this snack or side dish may not be the healthiest choice, but it might always be the most amazingly tasty and comforting choice :) Being from Canada originally, this was always a delight to look forward to while I was back visiting my family. You can find poutine at almost any restaurant, food court, fast food chain, food truck or even a school's cafeteria. I had a few leftover wonton squares and tried to get a little innovative. I thought creating a "cup" with the wontons would provide a nice crispy texture for this bite (aka "fun-sized") poutine. They turned out delicious and so easy! These could easily be served as a finger-food for a party. Enjoy!

Be careful not to break the wontons AND be careful not to add too much gravy because then it may just make it too heavy or mushy.

Ingredients

  • frozen French fries

  • 1 cup (or so) of a beef gravy, hot

  • 1 1/2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 12 wonton squares

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450.

  2. Prepare fries according to its directions on the bag.

  3. Lightly grease a muffin tray and carefully add a wonton to each spot without ripping the wonton.

  4. Once the fries are done, add a few to each muffin spot.

  5. Top with shredded cheese and no more than a tablespoon of gravy.

  6. Bake for about 8 minutes, serve hot.
