Crab cakes are always a treat. Whether you add in a variety of ingredients or stay simple, they are delicious and comforting. I like this recipe because there aren’t many ingredients so it keeps the process clean, fast and easy. Crab cakes can make a great appetizer, party food, side dish or main event. So depending on your menu, you have lots of options. I also like that I can prepare them ahead of time before cooking so it gives me time to balance the rest of the tasks in the kitchen or of the day.

Makes 6

Ingredients:

  • 8oz lump crab meat, Whole Foods Lump Crab Meat

  • 1 tsp old bay seasoning

  • 1/4 cup panko, or more if needed

  • 1 tbsp plain Greek yogurt

  • 1-2 tbsp freshly chopped parsley

  • 1 tbsp dijon mustard

  • 1 tsp Worcestershire

  • 1 tsp Peri Peri sauce, or another hot sauce like Tabasco

  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions:

  1. Mix everything together until evenly combined. If you feel like they are too wet, you can sprinkle some more panko breadcrumbs until they reach the desired texture and are easier to shape into your patties.

  2. Form into six even balls, lightly flatten balls to create a patty.

  3. Air Fryer:

    1. Preheat the air fryer for 3-5 minutes at 400. Spray the basket with cooking oil, then place the patties in an even layer. Give them a light spray then cook for 6-8 minutes.

    2. Stovetop Pan: Lightly oil a small to medium sized skillet over medium heat. Once hot add the patties and cook for 4 minutes on each side.

  4. Serve patties hot, warm or at room temperature. Use tartar sauce for dipping.
