Spicy Baked Salmon aka "Strong Fish"

If you love spice, then adding paprika to a simple salmon recipe is a great easy way to give it a little kick of something. This recipe was created by Harrison, age 9. He calls this spicy salmon recipe, “Strong Fish, because paprika has a strong flavor.” Thank you for sharing a great recipe for me to recreate in my DaniMade kitchen, it is delicious (and healthy)!

If you know or have any children that get excited about learning how to cook, then I recommend having them try to make this recipe. All the steps are very kid-friendly. *Adult supervision is suggested while using the oven.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound wild sockeye salmon fillet, or two 8oz fillets

  • Drizzle of olive oil, about 1 tbsp

  • Sprinkle of paprika, about ¼ tsp or more

  • 1 clove garlic, minced -OR- Sprinkle of garlic powder, about ½ tsp

  • Sprinkle of salt

  • Freshly ground black pepper

  • 1 tbsp freshly chopped dill

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, set aside.

  2. If your salmon was frozen, make sure it is thawed and pat dry with a paper towel. If it is fresh from the seafood counter, pat dry with a paper towel. Transfer the salmon fillet to the prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle evenly with paprika (the more you put the spicier it will be, use anywhere from ¼ teaspoon to 1 teaspoon). Then sprinkle ½ teaspoon or so of garlic powder over the salmon evenly, or if you are using freshly minced garlic, distribute that evenly over the salmon. Sprinkle about ¼ teaspoon or so of black pepper and the same with salt. Remember: you can always add more salt later if you feel like it needs more, but you can’t take it away if you add too much. ¼ to ½ is a good amount.

  3. Drizzle with a little olive oil, you do not need more than a tablespoon. Sprinkle some fresh dill over the salmon, you can save some of the dill for a garnish afterwards or you can use the entire one tablespoon then chop more for later. Personal preference of how much you like dill. 

  4. Place in the oven. Bake for 8-10 minutes. Serve hot or at room temperature with your favorite sides. I love salmon over any type of rice paired with any veggie, especially roasted broccoli. Enjoy with some freshly squeezed lemon juice.
