How To Create a Sophisticated Spice Rack

It’s Go Thyme

So you have committed to organizing your spice rack, but what’s next? Think about these three factors first:

  • The style

    • I feel it’s best to decide the look and design style you are trying to accomplish before assessing your purpose and space, that way you can zone in on your vision.

  • The purpose

    • This is important so you don’t end up wasting money, time or reason. Plus, you don’t want to end up putting so much effort into something that won’t end up being useful or efficient.

  • The space

    • You are at its mercy, so pay attention. If you are living in a super small space, you will need to decide what’s most important or how to downsize. There are plenty of organizational tips and solutions for working with small spaces. If space isn’t an issue, have fun playing, but also be reasonable on how functional your new addition will be to your cooking needs.

Simplicity never goes out of style. Find ways to stay classic, yet modern, while you bring to life a spice rack that will also make your tasks easier. Have fun with this project and make it your own. Below I will now discuss the items I purchased (with shoppable affiliate links) that brought my vision to life!

Nice Rack

Now let’s talk about a sophisticated design. I love these acrylic shelves! They are a sleek, modern, beautiful design and can be useful just about anywhere in the house. In the kitchen they are great for cookbooks on display or a minimalist spice rack. I installed them for my spices and I adore them. I have two of the longest size which is 36 inches a shelf, and each shelf can fit 19 of my spice jars. You can choose the shorter shelves if you aren’t looking to display as many spices or have less wall space. If you do have a lot of spices and have the space, showing less shelving will keep a cleaner, minimalist look on your walls.

Kind Of A Big Dill

Once I found my perfect shelving solution, it was time to dress them up. Since my spice jars are on display in my kitchen, that also means it is now becoming a focal point. So not only am I trying to make it functional while I cook, I had to keep in mind it was also a part of my kitchen decoration. That meant, I needed to find jars that all matched and looked neat. I love these jars I found on Amazon because the square shape to the bottles make them line up beautifully. They are the perfect size and they come with a ton of labels for any and every spice/herb known. They also come with a funnel to make it easier to transfer your spices and every jar has a cap so you can sprinkle or pour your spice. I like how they offer different pack quantities. I need 38 spice jars in order to fill up my two 36 inch shelves. I ordered the 24 pack (not knowing how many jars I’d be able to fit), once I realized I could fit more, I went ahead and purchased their 14 pack and it was the perfect amount to complete my collection.

I Beg Your Parsley

I felt bad not using all the endless options of labels the jars came with, they really supplied you with an incredible section of spices and herbs. However, I did hang onto them in case something came up where I could use them. Back to the style factor, my vision was a sophisticated spice wall. So, to me that meant I also needed the perfect labels to match the flow. I did not get these on Amazon, but I did order them (along with pantry labels for my canisters and containers) from a fantastic Etsy shop called, The Paper and Pear Store. This shop has many different styles and designs. The minimalist design offered was just what I was looking for and they fit the jars perfectly. Click here for my exact label options. All my jars are arranged in alphabetical order to make it easy to find the spice I am looking for.

I Can’t Bay Leaf It

The hardest part was committing to the style and working out the space, but once I had my plan, putting together this project was super easy and fast thanks to the help of Amazon and the Etsy labels. My vision came to life and it turned out exactly as I imagined. All the purchases didn’t break the bank either, especially if you already have all the spices to fill the jars. Otherwise, the only pricey part is the initial purchasing of all the herbs and spices you’ll need to fill the jars. I am beyond thrilled to have found a beautiful way to use the small space I was working with in the condo. I was able to turn the entryway that shared space with the kitchen, into a beautifully functional focal point. Here is a picture of the full space and my finished project.

Hopefully I inspired you to get organized and sophisticated! If you are about to start this project of your own, I’d love to see your final results. Share a picture on Instagram and don’t forget to tag @danimade.kitchen
