Mexican Style Poutine

Creating your own style poutine is always a fun and delicious. Once you throw a pile of fries onto the plate, your ideas can be endless. Anything inspired with Mexican flavors or ingredients is usually a no brainer, it’s always comforting and yummy! Below I provided guidelines because you can explore with your own flavors and ideas. If you don’t like taco meat, make a chipotle chicken or carnitas perhaps. If you are looking for a kick, garnish with some fresh jalapeno. I provided a few options of cheese and some other ideas. Have fun brainstorming. Think...tacos, burritos, quesadillas, what do you like to eat at Mexican restaurants? Then go from there, anything you play with on your own will come out great!

Guidelines For Creating a Mexican Poutine

What You Will Need:

  • Base:

    • French fries

  • Topping choices:

    • Choose a meat:

      • I used taco meat (make recipe from the package of your favorite taco seasoning mix)

      • Other ideas: carnitas, carne asada, chipotle chicken

    • Avocado

    • Cilantro

    • Red enchilada sauce

    • Fresh lime

    • Diced tomatoes

    • Jalapenos

    • Beans

    • Corn

    • Optional- sour cream

  • Cheese choices:

    • Cheese curds, or

    • Queso fresco, little chunks/shreds of mozzarella, white cheddar, monterey jack

What To Do:

  • Follow the recipe on the packet of your favorite taco seasoning to make your taco meat. Set aside.

  • Prepare your base- Either cook frozen fries or bake/air fry your own homemade fries. Once fries are cooked, place into individual, oven-safe bowls (or lay out onto a baking sheet).

  • Top- Add meat on top of the French fries, add the cheese last, then drizzle with hot enchilada sauce. Place in the oven for about 3 minutes to help melt the cheese.

  • Garnish- Add chopped avocado, diced tomatoes, fresh cilantro and lime, (or the toppings of your choice, optional sour cream). Use a fork to dig in and enjoy!
